Blessings and Tender Mercies for 2013

Happy New Year!

This is absolutely one of my most favorite times of the year - starting anew. And one of my all-time favorite movies is Tender Mercies with Robert Duvall and Tess Harper. It's a story about a fallen country singer finding redemption and a new life in a small town in Texas. When he despondent about his songs being rejected, his wife says every night when she says her prayers and gives thanks for the blessings and tender mercies in her life, he tops her list.

I got to thinking Tender Mercies. How many times last year when things got bad, did we find tender mercies. For me, it was the comfort of the flowers. When my kiddo was diagnosed with dyslexia, I was distraught. I love to read. If I couldn't, I think I would just crawl up into a ball and die. But our tender mercies came in the form of Carolina Day's tutoring program and Key School, specializing in finding a way to teach these bright students to learn and thrive with dyslexia. There they learn the blessing in the way their brain is wired. And for me, I found the tender mercies of the flowers I photographed while waiting out in the garden during tutoring sessions.

It is amazing. Our tender mercies are everywhere.

The song in the video is The Calm by Kirk and Deby Dearman  (www.cometothequiet.com).

Have a wonderful 2013 and enjoy the ride
